Cob Workshop
Pune | 2019
Duration
7 Days

This structure was built entirely by our team - Hands-on during the lockdown, serving two primary purposes: as an architecture studio and as a demonstration center for the people of Pune to experience a mud-building firsthand by touching the walls and understanding the performance of materials like mud and insulation.

The foundation is constructed using discarded cement bags filled by using construction debris and partially built using mud concrete, created by using sifted waste materials to form graded aggregates. The soil used for the foundation was sourced directly from the site, with a pond created in the area that had been excavated. The walls were built using a cob technique with an inclined batter to achieve various facets, and the roof structure was formed using a bamboo skeleton, topped with tin sheets and bamboo mats underneath.
