Techniques
Cob
Ferrocement

Area
2200 sq.ft.

The principal architect for this project was

Ar. Eugene Pandala (Kerala), under whose expert guidance, Ar. Rohan Nahar designed and managed the construction of this humble home. Built using the cob technique, the house features walls with a base thickness of 12 inches, tapering to 9 inches at the top with a gentle batter. The house was commissioned by a down-to-earth journalist from Malayalam Manorama, a client known for their humility, simplicity, and expansive thinking—traits that aligned perfectly with the project’s philosophy of sensitivity to both people and the environment.

The roofing was constructed using the Ferrocement technique, inspired by the intricate patterns of coconut branches. The design features a doubly curved shell supported by triangular ribs, which provide the necessary stiffness to the structure.

Remarkably, the house has required only one maintenance intervention: a mud wash applied nine years after construction, ensuring its long-lasting integrity and beauty.
